Caitlin Costin of LIFE Magazine has waved farewell to fondue and declared S’mores its replacement in the “Hip Retro Food of Choice” category. Still very much resembling your campy childhood favorite of melted chocolate and marshmallow sandwiched between graham crackers, S’mores is now sold in high-end restaurants, bars, and cafés the likes of Table 6 in Denver, the Halo Lounge in Midtown Atlanta, Parkway Grill in Pasadena, and New York’s DT.UT Café in the East Village. But if you are a do-it-yourself purest (like I am) and it’s too cold outside for camping (who needs a wind-chill factor to be a purest?), CasaModa’s S’mores maker ($30) is just the thing. If you are in Manhattan, go ahead and pick one up at Dylan’s Candy Bar. What’s next, tator tots du jour?
