Bone Appétit

Ruffles from the Three Dog Bakery

24 delicate cakes rolled in naturally sweet carob chips, peanut crumbles and coconut flakes, neatly packaged and shipped to your door for only $12.95. The catch? These treats will find their way straight to the floor, and satisfy the sweet canine molars of our favorite pups. “Ruffles” from the Three Dog Bakery is a canine spin on classic truffles, and is just one of the many all-natural, gourmet treats available from their “Dogalog.” Open since 1989, this bakery’s love of dogs is apparent in everything they do and say. They offer creatively named treats like “Vanilla Woofers”, “Beagles”, “SnickerPoodles” and “Slab O’ rrrRRRibs” and even throw a bone to cat lovers with the “Whole Kitten Caboodle.” Dog lovers can sniff out stores in more than 13 states, or fill their shopping “bassets” with treats from the online store.

Everyone knows the way to a dog’s heart is through their stomach, and if you can’t get to the bakery you can make your own homemade treats with ingredients found at your local grocery store.

The biggest dog lover I know, Kristin, graciously sent me a link to this recipe after making treats for her dog Sam. Sam is used to the royal treatment, and these biscuits did not disappoint. Keep in mind that since the ingredients are fresh and without preservatives, you will have to keep the biscuits refrigerated; they only last a few days.

HOW CUTE! Sam and I are so happy to be posted and hope all the other dogs out there can enjoy the dog treats as much as Sam did! Thanks for the birthday wish!

The carob chips in the “Ruffles” may not be enough to cause a problem, but chocolate is toxic to dogs. For more information, see here.

Hi Rance - Thanks for the note. Dog owners should definitely avoid chocolate, but carob is ok. It is a popular, safe substitute for chocolate in dog treats.

Love the pooch dessert recipes. Now all I need is a pooch to make me take up baking again! Sam definitely looks happy to be “treated” so well! I do believe canine birthday cakes would be best sellers!

Sam looks so happy with the treat Kristin made I’ll have to try them for Baxter. Nice web site. I think I gain weight just looking at it!
