“C” is for “Constraint”

Cookie monster missing cookies? (Image Source: Got Milk.comWord on the Sesame Street is that Cookie Monster is abandoning his favorite treat. That’s right; the uninhibited, crumb-flying, cookie gorging we have all loved to watch over the years may be a thing of the past. Vegetables are now competing with cookies for airtime and Cookie Monster is forced to sing reformist songs like “Cookies are a Sometimes Food” instead of “C is for Cookie.” Upon hearing the news I thought “This is nonsense!” and threatened to boycott Sesame Street for all eternity. Considering I am a lifelong fan of the cute, furry monster and eat cookies religiously, what else could they expect me to do?

Apparently a reporter at CNN had the same reaction to the news as I did, and called Cookie Monster’s boss to get an explanation. It turns out that Sesame Street is not trying to teach children that cookies are bad, but instead trying to show that we need to eat a variety of foods to be healthy. Ok, Sesame Street may have a point. The world does need to eat more fruits and vegetables, but I was hoping the Cookie Monster version of this lesson would be a song titled “One Cookie for Me, Two Carrots for You.” I have always believed that eating dessert doesn’t have to be a gluttonous activity, but in this age of fad diets and super sizes an emphasis on moderation could be exactly what kids need. If the ultimate cookie lover can control his ravenous cravings, he could be an inspiration to all in our sugar loving society.

Cookie Monster, even in a restrained form, will always be about the free spirited enjoyment of cookies to me. In honor of this sweet monster, be sure to let the crumbs fly and enjoy every minute (or second) of all the cookies you do manage to eat!

And “F” is for “Food Pyramid.” Blah to carrots and reformist songs! But I was always partial to Grover anyways :).

Cookie Monster is a classic and should stay that way! What’s next, changing the classic cream filling of an oreo cookie so it’s healthier…oh wait, that’s already happening. What’s the world coming to?

Hold strong! If you’re going to eat cookies, make sure they’re the real deal :) Can an oreo ever really be “healthy” anyway? That’s not why we eat it in the first place!

I understand teaching kid to eat healthy is important, but to change cookie monster whole character is horrible, if he turns into carrot monster, and turns orange i well be sorley disappointed.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?
