Over 50 wedding cakes from top bakers around the country will be on display in Grand Central Terminal from today, May 24 to Thursday, May 26. Hosted by Bride’s magazine, the cakewalk is meant to showcase the latest trends in wedding cake designs and will feature cakes from masters like Sylvia Weinstock, Margaret Braun and more (surprisingly, Ron Ben-Israel is not on the list of participants.) Artisans will be on hand to offer demonstrations and answer any questions you may have about the cakes. Martini and Rossi will also be holding a tasting of mini cakes and cocktails and will offer advice on pairing sparkling wines with desserts. Original cake plate designs by Vera Wang, Badgley Mischka and other famous designers will also be on display. The cakewalk is free of charge and open to the public, even if you don’t have an engagement ring on your finger.

No Ron-Ben?! You would think that the best wedding cake designer in NYC would at least make an appearance. I guess Vera Wang will have to do (even though she’s more lace than puff-pastry!)
Completely off the topic of wedding cakes . . . Does anyone know a bakery where I can get decorated cookies? I’m having a baby shower and wanted a bouquet of cute cookies as a centerpiece, but I dont know where to get them. Thanks!
Hi Kara — If you live in New York City you can try Eleni’s in Chelsea. They specialize in hand painted cookies.
You are the go-to site for food events! I’m going tomorrow on my lunch break.
