Kelli’s Vanilla Bean Lemonade

Lemonade While at work today at the Polka Dot Cake Studio I created a new recipe for Vanilla Bean Lemonade. I wanted to make a lemonade that would work with the sweetness of the cakes we sold in the store, and was inspired by a recipe for Vanilla Bean Lemonade in the appropriately titled book, Lemonade. I created my own version using ingredients at the bakery, and was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Usually I’m not a big fan of lemonade, but the vanilla bean really smooths out the flavor and makes a nice combination with the tart lemons. I tested out a sample batch on a few people who came into the store, and they seemed to like it (although everything seems better when you get a free sample!) We’ll be selling it this Saturday at the bakery so stop by if you’re in the neighborhood. It’s a work in progress, so let me know what you think.

I’m not a big fan of lemonade but I want to try that! I was just in the Polka Dot Cake Studio today (first time, actually; mmm, what a good brownie) but I’ll definitely be going back.

There’s also a recipe in The Joy of Cooking that requires you to cook the lemonade for one hour and strain everything. Very time consuming (and probably not worth it for me), but it takes the bite out of the lemonade.

I’ll be in for a glass next week. Will you be open 4th of July weekend?
Me personally I adore the acid in lemons and love lime and lemonade that packs a punch. I could spend a whole year making only lemony desserts…

We sold out of the first batch quickly today, so it was a pretty good success. I made a second batch which I’m not as happy with as the first, but was still good. The juice from the lemons seemed different. My next goal is consistency :)

I’ll have to check out the Joy of Cooking recipe, although I’m not a fan of waiting and straining. Some people really like the tart flavor, although I prefer sweet.

We will be open 4th of July weekend, stop by if you get a chance!

Kelli - I’m a big fan of lemonade, but never thought about using vanilla with it… must give it a go, thanks!

Hi Kelli — I was in the bakery on Saturday, asking lots of quetions. Tish gave me the URL to your site–I love it and will be a frequent visitor! Also wanted to let you know that my husband and I loved the lemonade–so cool to know that it’s your concoction :-)

I too, have had the pleasure of drinking Kelli’s Vanilla-Bean-Nectar-of-the-Gods’. I whole-heartedly vouch for its thirst-quenching properties.
