Michel Cluizel’s Caramel Mushrooms taste so good you would think they’re illegal. A perfect blend of smooth chocolate, chewy caramel and crunchy almond nougatine, it’s the perfect fix for a chocoholic. If white chocolate and caramel is not your drug of choice, Michel Cluizel also makes an amazing cappuccino truffle shaped like a coffee cup and a Criolle ganache truffle shaped like a cacao pod. The mushrooms and cappuccino varieties are perfectly bite-sized, but the cocoa pods are almost 3 inches in length, which may cause a sugar overdose. All of his chocolates are beautifully designed and made from the finest ingredients, making them well worth any risk involved.
Michel Cluizel has been operating in France since 1948, but his chocolates are not commonly found in the United States. (I had the luxury of trying a sample of someone else’s Caramel Mushrooms, but have never seen them sold in stores.) I submitted an inquiry through their website to find local retailers, and will post an update when I hear a response. Until then, I’ll add this as yet another excuse to take a trip to France.
