Hello!

Oh, nice article about Kyoto! Kyoto has some great desserts to offer!

I see that you found my favorite doughnut shop, the one in the Nishiki Market. I love how they come off the little conveyor belt! Did you realize that those are soy milk doughnuts?

Peko

I did a post about <a href="http://kyotofoodie.com/nishiki-market-kyoto-no-daidokoro-kyotos-kitchen/" rel="nofollow">Nishiki Market</a> on Kyoto Foodie the other day showing the autumn delights.

Too bad you didn't get to other cities -- Matsue on the west coast is one of the greatest cities for sweets in Japan. I spent two summers zig zagging top to bottom and by far, Matsue had the best variety, the most perfect execution, and the most delicious. Kyoto is fine, but Matsue (which is way off the beaten track for Westerners) is by far the superior pastry city.

Hi Kelli,
I'm headed for NY Dec 27 and will be there through New Year's. I want to hit as many bakeries/pastry shops as I can within reason. Any suggestions for an afternoon route - stuff in the same area, not to miss, etc. Thanks.

Thanks so much for the beautiful photos. I lived in Tokyo for seven years and took a few trips down to Osaka and Kyoto. I really miss the food and the people very much. I absolutely adore the department store basements filled with great bakeries and ready-to-eat food! Since you are in Kyoto, I highly recommend trying some okonomiyaki (egg pancake) if you can- so delicious. The bacon & potato pie at McDonald's (yes, Mc D's!) is something they don't serve here in the US and is quite a good snack. Have fun!!

Thanks for the nice notes everyone!

Robyn-- Kyoto station is very cool! Great architecture. It almost feels space age.

Griff-- They were giving out samples of the green tea bread which is how I discovered it. It is excellent. It has whole, sweet red beans mixed in which are an extra, nice touch.

Mia- Yes, they're super size red beans!
