Fake Cake

At the New York gift show I saw a booth displaying adorable little cakes. I walked along the display for a minute admiring the beautiful packaging and then suddenly I realized what I was really looking at. These little cakes weren’t actually cakes at all; rather they were hand towels wrapped up to look just like the real thing. Le Patissier, a line by Prairiedog Co. out of Japan, wrapped towels to look like a roll cake, cupcake, slice of cake and even a smoothie. To complete the package each dessert-towel is topped with a “piece of fruit” that does double duty as a magnet. The cakes look good enough to eat, but the best part is they won’t do any damage to your waistline. It’s the perfect gift for a housewarming party or a dessert lover who thinks they have seen it all before.

I have one of these! One of my students got it for me in Japan…I love it! I haven’t opened it yet…I don’t want to ruin the lovely cake.
