One dessert bar is down for the count. It looks like Will Goldfarb’s Room 4 Dessert has been closed as a result of “ownership issues”. It seems like Goldfarb and his financial backers no longer agree, and they couldn’t come to an agreement that would keep Goldfarb as Pastry Chef at the current location. This is the general rumor, although I’m sure that’s not quite the full story.
I actually never made it over to Room 4 Dessert, but always wanted to go. I had high hopes for it since I had heard so much about it and have always had a good experience when I saw Goldfarb at different pastry events throughout the city (although Eater’s comment section is tearing him apart.) I certainly understand what it’s like to go through “ownership issues” (if that is indeed what he is going through), and wish him luck in his next venture, which is reported to open in the next 6 months in some other undisclosed location in NYC.
It’s amazing, and incredibly scary, how fast a well known place can shut down. Maybe they’ll auction off their fixtures at discounted rates so newbies like Amai can help carry the dream on. Something good should come out of all of that money and time spent building a place. Now I just wonder when, and if, Tailor is ever going to open. I better get over there quickly once it does.
congrats on your mention in the nyt today!
any chance you’re going to make a salmon or pickle cookie? let those flavors mingle…
You are right. Tailor seems to be getting delayed quite a bit. I am eagerly waiting for the opening of Amai, though.
Best of Luck.
no. not the whole story. in nyc there’s always more underwater than above, that’s for sure.
