Just a quick note to share my new favorite bakery in New York City, How Sweet it Is. This bakery opened their retail store around the same time as Amai (October 2007), and I finally had a chance to visit it this week. I had met one of the owners, Beth Pilar, previously at a coffee tasting event and she graciously showed me around the bakery during my visit. They take great pride in the detail of their products, and make beautiful, delicious pastries. Their speciality is custom cakes (wedding, birthday, etc.), but they do a little bit of everything for the tiny, take out counter at the shop. I recommend trying their cute mini peanut butter cups, chocolate meringues or a filled cupcake.
