Sweet

There is one sweet event that has knocked me out of the Amai world and made me take notice. The New York City Food and Wine Festival in October has a special event called SWEET, with over 20 pastry chefs (and miscellaneous cheese and wine shops) participating. It costs $175 and promises to serve “frosted layer cakes with filling flavors you’ll love; dark chocolates infused with exotic spices that will ruin you for everyday candy bars; cookies crafted from the finest ingredients and resembling works of art; ice-cream so rich and creamy you will dream about it for days.”

That all sounds wonderful, but with so many chefs and pastries I’m sure that it will be an overwhelming experience. I also find the list of participants rather amusing – it starts with Dominique Ansel and ends with Duncan Hines. Yes, Duncan Hines! I have a hard time imagining how this event will actually play out, but I’m sure it will be quite an experience.

For those who can’t afford the $175 price tag, you could always opt for the recession-friendly free pie give away happening in Times Square the week before. ABC is giving away pie to promote the upcoming season of Pushing Daisies. All of these sweet options – from free to $175, is what makes me still love New York.
